Red Reishi Dosage

April 15th, 2009

It’s been a open subject for quite some time now.  Many consumers are unsure on the dosage of their newly purchased red reishi product.  Manufacturer sites are definitely a reference, but they are usually pretty vague.  We know that long time users have found the right dosage for themselves.  We would like to open this discussion thread so reishi users may give some feedback on their experience and how they come up with the dosage they are comfortable with.

    I have just started taking Nissan reishi for 2 days. I felt much more energetic, my allergy almost disappeared ( i got it for several months) but my high blood pressure went up sky rocket ( 170/110) . Should i take HB medicine or this is just the normal reaction and will be fine in a week. Please advise a.s.a.p. What is the dosage i should take? Thanks.

    @Dubhead
    The better extraction methods today breaks down the reishi to a level where human metabolism can absorb. However, it does not hurt to take it with vitamin C if you have a challenging digestive system.

    I have read a number of comments on here and not seen anyone mentioning taking Vitamin C in conjunction with Red Reishi Essence. As I understand, Vit. C is essential for the body to break down the polysaccharide content (beta glucan) for easier absorption by the body. This was a foundation of a lot of the research from Japanese heart and cancer surgeon Dr. Fukumi Morishige. Here is some information from another page about dosage:

    How to use Reishi

    Reishi polysaccharides have high molecular weights of up to 1,050,000, which makes absorptiion by the intestines difficult. Dr. Fukumi Morishige, M.D. found that patients given large doses of Reishi (2-9g/day) had diarrhea, but when a large dose of vitamin C was also given at the same time, there was no diarrhea. Vitamin C breaks down the high molecular weight polysaccharides to a molecular weight of around 30,000, so that they are much more easily absorbed by the intestines.

    For general health maintenance and prevention, take 2 Reishi mycelium capsules twice per day on an empty stomach. Also take 500 mg of Vitamin C per day after breakfast.

    When a discomfort occurs from minor illness, increase the dosage to 2-3 capsules 3 times per day. Also take 1,000 mg of Vitamin C per day after meals.

    For insomnia, take 4-5 capsules before bedtime. Take 2 in the morning. Also take 1,000 mg of Vitamin C per day after meals.

    When a serious illness occurs, increase the dosage to 4 capsules 4 times per day. Also take 2,000-3,000 mg of Vitamin C per day after meals.

    Some people may experience Vertigo Reaction when they first take Reishi. During the first week, they may experience slight swelling of the head or dizziness. Arthritis patient may experienced a temporary increase in the pain level. This is a cleansing reaction, often called a “healing crisis”. Continue to take Reishi and the symptoms will be alleviated within a week.

    I have been buying from this company for the last 3 years and I can tell you they are real. To recognize whether real or not, the japanese brands carry a holographic seal on their boxes. It’s the seal of approval from the Japan Reishi Association. Red reishi is not a cure-all herb. However, when taken regularly, it improves the overall metabolism. If your mom’s knee is hurting because of Arthritis for instance, then probably reishi would help. However, if she hurt her knee from a previous fall or an accident, this is consider external injuries and I don’t think reishi is your answer. As I recall, it took me about a couple of weeks to start feeling the effect of reishi. This feeling of well being and increased energy will be different than the effect of the synthetic medication she is taking. She will know the difference.

    I’ve been buying the mikei red reishi for my mom since she have knee pain all the time. But just wondering how do we know if we’re buying the real product? I mean it usually takes a while before you see results. So how do we know this company is selling the real thing or not? And the fact that she takes other medicine, how can I tell if this is the stuff that made her feel better or not. I’m just wonder.

    This is the most amazing health product on the market. I started reishi some 2 years ago, went though other cheaper brands and were worthless. Insist on red reishi people or you may as well just throw your cash out of your windows. I am 49 and I have been taking Mikei red reishi for the last year and all of my mysterious nagging health symptoms have vanished. My life hasn’t changed much and I have not done anything else drastic. I can only credit red reishi for my current optimal health. I suggest you buy from this retailer as they always have bulk order discount. They have great reputation and knowledge about red reishi. I have not found any other places beating their prices and services. Ask for Michael when you bulk order.

    Hi Alex, I have had breast cancer twice; my surgeon recommended red reishi to provide protection for the uninvolved breast and inhibit tumor growth. I tried taking Femara, an aromotase inhibitor, with very poor and painful results. I have beem taking red reishi for about one month and I am very pleased with the results–noticeable increase in energy as well as decreased joint pain.

    Hi Alex,
    A friend of mine survived cancer primarly due to red reishi. She had breast cancer and was given traditional medicine as well as high dosage reishi. I am glad she is still around us today. She is now taking regular red reishi to boost her immune system. It is because of what she went through that I started taking red reishi myself.

    Hi Beatrice,
    I have been taking this new reishi essence red reishi product for the last 3 weeks. It’s been great. I used to take Mikei and I don’t feel a decrease in my well being or energy. I can’t speak for everyone else, but this is working for me. I now can take up to 6 capsules a day since the total would equal to 3 grams a day. This is because I read some research that they recommend taking 3-4 grams a day to be effective.

    Does anybody have any experience with red reishi taken to cure brast cancer or any kind of cancer?

    Has anyone tried the reishi essence red reishi product. The price is attractive but I want to know about it’s potency and effectiveness. I claims to have 55% polysaccharides where the mikei, top of the line, has only 38%.

    @Eddie
    I don’t think there is any relationship between reishi and genseng, other than a shared importance in Eastern medicine. They have completely separate properties. However, I believe both can prolong clotting time for the blood, so I am not sure I would recommend taking therapeutic (high) doses of both concurrently.

    That said, if I could take only one, I would choose reishi because it helps bring the body into balance and is not a stimulant.

    @Lester

    Sorry, Lester – I haven’t been here for awhile.

    I take mine about 15-30 minutes prior to a meal. It seems to be a little harsh if I take it much longer before, but with this time frame I’ve had no problems.

    Both are top herbs in Asia. Red reishi is of the fungi family. The medicinal properties of mushroom are quite different than ginseng or root based extract.

    @NormT
    If you have digestion issues, I would recommend you take it with food or right after a meal. My wife has IBS and taking reishi on an empty stomach sometimes irritates her. As far as I know, the effectiveness is no much lesser.

    Hi Deirdre, wish you the best luck. As far as my story goes, my whole family takes red reishi supplement, except for my young children. My parents are doing very well on the mikei reishi as they feel a significant difference after starting taking the supplement. They expressed having more energy, some aches and pains gone and a general sense of well being. My husband and myself are taking a mix of the Toi and the mikei reishi. My husband tends to like mikei while I am doing just fine with toi. We take 3 capsules a day and my parents take 4 a day. It isn’t cheap for sure, but the benefits outweight the cost.

    When I first read about Reishi/Lingzhi last year I frequently came across cautions that one should take it for three months, then stop for one month, then repeat that pattern. The reason given for this was to minimize any possible side effects. On that advice, I took two Mikei Reishi twice daily (I have a T-cell Lymphoma condition) and saw amazing results of remission after two months. I stopped taking reishi after the initial three months, intending to start again after a one-month break, but did not get back to it right away. My condition reappeared after five months; so I am again beginning to take reishi twice daily. I will report back if I have another successful remission.

    I found out that it really depends on the individual. Some folks are ok with less some others more. Personally, I take 2 mikei daily, 1 first thing in the morning, and the other just before dinner.

    I am taking Mikei reishi and due to my high blood pressure, I am taking 3 a day. It does help keep my hypertension stable. I think Mikei is the best, but does anyone else take another brand of Reishi that they have good experience with?
